Not far from the town of Gura Humorului, in the valley of a Moldova River tributary, one of the most beautiful monasteries was erected over five centuries ago. The frescoes decorating its exterior and interior, the originality of its paintings, and last but not least, its famously vibrant blue color – so intensely blue – denote the genius of Moldavian artists. With an acute artistic sense, they made Voroneț Monastery the undisputed symbol of Moldova. Often called the "Sistine Chapel of the East," it is a jewel among Bucovina's painted monasteries.
