Founded in 1532 by Prince Petru Rareș, Moldovița Monastery is a magnificent ensemble comprising a princely house, monastic cells, four defensive towers, and the iconic church. Protected by formidable walls over 6 meters high and 1.20 meters thick, the monastery acquired a fortress-like appearance over time, yet this does not diminish the captivating charm with which Moldovița is endowed. A pivotal Bucovina historical attraction, it showcases stunning exterior frescoes and rich history.

During the reign of Voivode Alexandru cel Bun, at the beginning of the 15th century, Ivan – the Vornic of Humor – erected a stone church for the monks of the wooden hermitage in Humor village. Under the patronage of the prince and later Stephen the Great, Humor Monastery developed alongside it. The original church built by Vornic Ivan fell into ruin in the early decades of the following century. Now, a truly romantic setting surrounds the later church, whose foundation stone was laid in 1530. Humor Monastery is another iconic Bucovina painted church rich in history and artistic value.

Not far from the town of Gura Humorului, in the valley of a Moldova River tributary, one of the most beautiful monasteries was erected over five centuries ago. The frescoes decorating its exterior and interior, the originality of its paintings, and last but not least, its famously vibrant blue color – so intensely blue – denote the genius of Moldavian artists. With an acute artistic sense, they made Voroneț Monastery the undisputed symbol of Moldova. Often called the "Sistine Chapel of the East," it is a jewel among Bucovina's painted monasteries.

Nestled in an area where the beauty of the landscape and profound tranquility invite introspection, Sucevița Monastery is widely regarded as one of the most perfectly executed constructions among the Bucovina monasteries. With its distinctive architecture, adorned with captivating frescoes and paintings, and holding invaluable ecclesiastical works of great artistic and historical significance, Sucevița is a must-visit historical and artistic landmark in Bucovina.

Putna Monastery is famously known as the first foundation of Stephen the Great. Moreover, the ruler intended it to be his eternal resting place. Thus, like Bogdan I and Alexandru cel Bun, Stephen the Great destined his foundation to be a princely necropolis. Through numerous endowments, Prince Stephen the Great showed his reverence for the Church. As recorded in the chronicles, the ruler laid the foundation stone in July 1466. Putna is a cornerstone of Moldavian history and spirituality, making it a profound Bucovina pilgrimage site.

In the wide clearing to the right of the forest road, in a picturesque place due to the variety of landscape and the richness of the fir forests, the church was built by the righteous believer Traian Pomohaci, in memory of his wife Reveca, whom he loved very much, kidnapped by the merciless death on March 29, 1948 at only 36 years old and leaving behind 7 children.
